My study abroad experience in Caen was a life changing experience that allowed me to improve my French language skills and make lifelong friends.  My language skills progressed must faster than I expected and my host family deserves most of the credit for that taking place. They opened their home to me, and treated me like one of the family.  They were always there to help me with homework or things I was having trouble grasping. They always encouraged me to practice my French and not become discouraged if I was corrected. I always joked with them they were my French parents and was honored to have them attend my wedding this past autumn in Texas.

First of all, I want to thank all the people I made their acquaintance during my stay in Caen, and especially B and M, the family that greeted me, and M too. I mean I was very happy with my stay at B and M, they are very nice. I can’t forget when I fell a little sick how much B and M took care of me. I learned many things from them not just about the French language, but about life in general. Time passed very quickly in Caen.

“Living with a host family is not just having a home…

I wanted to live with a family to improve my French but I had so much more. We exchanged our ideas, our traditions and our culture. I felt that I was able to discover France as a local. It was a total immersion, and in the end, I have my “French family” for life. After seeing my host family three times since my semester in Caen I can say with confidence that I would never change my experience or my new family for nothing.
