My study abroad experience in Caen was a life changing experience that allowed me to improve my French language skills and make lifelong friends.  My language skills progressed must faster than I expected and my host family deserves most of the credit for that taking place. They opened their home to me, and treated me like one of the family.  They were always there to help me with homework or things I was having trouble grasping. They always encouraged me to practice my French and not become discouraged if I was corrected. I always joked with them they were my French parents and was honored to have them attend my wedding this past autumn in Texas.

First of all, I want to thank all the people I made their acquaintance during my stay in Caen, and especially B and M, the family that greeted me, and M too. I mean I was very happy with my stay at B and M, they are very nice. I can’t forget when I fell a little sick how much B and M took care of me. I learned many things from them not just about the French language, but about life in general. Time passed very quickly in Caen.
Thank you once again for all.

“Living with a host family is not just having a home…

I wanted to live with a family to improve my French but I had so much more. We exchanged our ideas, our traditions and our culture. I felt that I was able to discover France as a local. It was a total immersion, and in the end, I have my “French family” for life. After seeing my host family three times since my semester in Caen I can say with confidence that I would never change my experience or my new family for nothing. I am very grateful for my experience with the ACAU and my family! “

“I had a great time with my host family. I can honestly say that they are the first reason why my experience in France was so exceptional. Unlike staying at the university residence, a host family offers French conversation and French cuisine each night. I was taken on excursions on weekends where I had nothing planned, I was free to go out where guest friends at home but most importantly, I had a support system when I needed it most. In addition, I perfected my French faster than I could have imagined! “

“In my opinion, the decision to choose to stay with a French family gave me the right opportunity to know and immerse myself in French culture. Out of my family I had never received a warm welcome like the one I had when I arrived in France. From the beginning, I felt integrated, I didn’t feel like a stranger. It was a unique experience that allowed me to deepen my knowledge in French language and culture. Beyond everything, I met and discovered a lot of people I never would have found otherwise. It’s more than just a pre-paid meal and lodging. It is the connections and knowledge that I have made and that I will never forget. “

“My stay here is beautiful. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to live with a French family. I have the opportunity to practice my French every day and I learn French culture. My host Family “the Tribout” is very friendly and they are always there if I need something. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”
